Stop Running From Your Life And Start Running After It

Here are tips on how to stop running from your life and avoid distractions, so you can run towards your goals.

Stop Running From Your Life And Start Running After It

Put Your [Vice] Down.

So many people are out there right now looking for distractions. Something to keep them from facing their reality, meaning: their self. TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Doom Scrolling the News, checking what your grandparents are up to on Facebook, and all the other things you do to distract yourself from your reality are all ways to run away from your life.

Turn In To It And LIVE.

Instead of running from whatever you feel when it’s quiet, turn into it. Run after it. I have friends who I know want to make improvements in their lives. I don’t say this because I assume it, I’m one of those people who is always looking for ways to make improvements in my life by focusing on what I can do better. So these are conversations I’ve had with people. However, even though their intentions are pure, and even though they have the mental fortitude and the courage to challenge their “self” and pursue growth opportunities, I sometimes find they spend a lot of time running away from their lives.

Run After What You Want.

If you want to improve your personal situation, if you want to accomplish more in your professional life, if you want to enjoy a happier marriage/relationship, or if you want to be a better parent to your kids, how the fuck is TikTok/Netflix/Instagram helping you do that? Spare me the BS that you watch documentaries on parenting, or that you’re getting investment advice on TikTok. No you’re not. You’re distracting yourself from the reality you don’t like, and instead of doing something about it, you’re running from it.

The Only Change Will Come From You.

If you don’t like something, you can’t ignore it and expect it to change. Everything in our lives are manifestations of our actions and our beliefs. Not getting along with your husband? Figure out how you can be a better version of you so that you can either (a) realize that your happiness comes from within and not from your relationship and the happier you are inside, the happier your marriage can be, or (b) realize that your partner isn’t happy with themselves and in a (intentional or unintentional way) is taking it out on your marriage. The truth is, you can’t fix anything until you’re happy with yourself. A broken hammer can’t slam in a bent nail.

Two Wrongs Don’t Make Anything Work.

Instead of distracting yourself and complaining about everyone else in your life that brings you problems, maybe pick up a book on how to improve yourself. Listen to a podcast on self improvement. I don’t mean fantasy novels or the latest true crime podcast, I mean intentional active work on yourself. Again, this message goes out to those who say they want change but who spend most of their time distracting themselves and running from their own lives.
