Give Yourself Some Space, Some Grace

Can We Get Our Life Prepared To Dive In Immediately?

Alright, I don’t know why but I’m in the mood to use trains for my analogy today. With that said, it’s good to have a routine, to set up our lives in a way that we can just get right to it as life comes at us. Laying the tracks, so to speak. These routines create a level of consistency that allow us to get humming and reach our destinations right on time. By organizing our lives in way that sets us up for success, we have a much higher likelihood of actually achieving it. We want to run our lives like a freight train, hauling ass and getting where we’re going.

Avoid Getting Derailed And Becoming A Train Wreck.

So, you’ve set up your life to be dialed in and ready for you to just show up and execute, but next thing you know BOOM! you’re thrown a curve ball (or, following our train analogy, like in the cartoons when the railroad switch is set to the wrong track and train is going to fly into some obstruction and derail) and this can totally ruin your day.

This post isn’t so much about how to set up your day. It’s more about dealing with the unexpected events that pop up and not getting derailed over them. As you set out on your day to crush all your goals, check every item off your ‘To-Do’ list, or to finish that project by that impending deadline, you’re going to hit some bumps, some snags, and hit some hurdles.

Just Chill!

It’s funny, I say to just chill because I’m the least chill dude on the planet. Frankly I’m always fired up because I’m that freight train running at 100 miles per hour. And even a penny on the track could derail me. So, I have to remind myself to just chill! When something comes up, because something always comes up, I just need to give myself a second and accept that this thing can result in two outcomes:

(1) total fucking derailment, emotional distress, missed goals, undue delays and shitty attitude

OR

(2) minor detour, all good we’ll figure it out.

#2 always works better, but it’s not easy to remind yourself in the moment that these delays and interruptions can be minor detours and don’t have to be total devastation. The reality is, the train can stay on the tracks and you can still get to your final destination. But if you go off the rails YOU will be the train wreck. And not only will you not get everything done, it will suck the whole time too.

SO, GIVE YOURSELF SOME SPACE, SOME GRACE AND JUST CHILL!

Once you go around the minor detour, you’re back on track and ready to crush it! All aboard!
